Aim of the project
To unite researchers from Germany, Latvia and Estonia in joint research project on urban shrinkage (case study of Riga neighbourhoods) and to create a platform for further scientific and academic cooperation on this topic between Baltic states and Germany.
Main activities of the project
- Research on urban shrinkage in Riga, preparation of a scientific publication (in Riga, Latvia)
- Guest lecturers of German and Estonian professors in Latvia (in Riga, Latvia)
- Discussion on processes of urban shrinkage and their research in Urban Institute Riga (in Riga, Latvia)
- Workshop for German, Latvian and Estonian students on urban shrinkage and demographic change (in Riga, Latvia)
- Preparation of lecture materials on urban shrinkage for use in Latvian and Estonian universities (in Riga, Latvia)
- Presentation of project research to researchers and decision makers in seminar of Urban Institute Riga (in Riga, Lat-via)
- Presentation of project’s scientific research in Baltic and German scientific conferences (in Latvia, Estonia, Germany)

Researchers of and lecturers on urban development and shrinkage (Germany, Latvia, Estonia) – 10-12 people
Students of the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Dresden Technical University, University of Tartu and ERASMUS students in Latvia participating in students’ workshop – 25 people
Students of Environmental science, Geography, Spa-tial planning and Urban planning (Latvia) – 40 people
Riga development planners (representatives of Riga City Council) – 10 people
