Description of the project
In order to attract more tourists from Germany it is important to conduct deeper research on German tourist behaviour model. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as federal state of Germany is similar to Latvia in terms of tourism resources, therefore it is important to find out why German tourists are choosing Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a tourism destination.
During the project a questionnaire for potential German tourist survey was designed and in June 2011 the survey of German population was conducted in 7 German cities gathering totally 579 valid questionnaires for further analyses. The results of the survey were processed using statistical analysis methods and the statistical analysis program SPSS. Based on conducted survey conclusions and recommendations addressed to Latvian Tourism Development Agency and Latvian tourism companies were developed to attract tourists from Germany.
Methodological help was received during the project from the scientists of the University of Rostock for the designing of the questionnaire and the processing of the results.
The senior students of University of Latvia Faculty of Economics and Management Tourism and Hotel Management studies were involved in the realisation of the project, thereby perfecting the knowledge obtained during the studies with practical skills and experience in marketing research: designing questionnaires, conducting surveys, survey result processing and data interpretation.
The obtained results will be further analysed and summarised in student semester works and bachelor theses. The results of the study will be presented to the Latvian Tourism Development Agency and they will be discussed in the 70th scientific conference of the University of Latvia during the section of the „Tourism and Hospitality Development Problems and Prospects” (6th February 2012, University of Latvia, Faculty of Economics and Management, Aspazijas Boulv. 5). The conference will be attended by many tourism scientists from other Latvian Universities as well as tourism institutions and enterprises. The results will be submitted for publication in University of Latvia scientific papers.
