Aims of the project
The History of Baltic Literary Culture is conceived as a long-term research project by more than 40 researchers from various disciplines from Estonia, Latvia and Germany, with the aim of conceiving an innovative approach to Baltic literary culture up to 1840 and publishing it as a collective monograph in eight volumes under the direction of Liina Lukas as editor. The series is planned in Estonian and German. The first volume, „History of Baltic Literary Culture I: Centres and Carriers”, edited by Liina Lukas, is published in Estonian in 2021. The aim of the current project is the revised version of the first volume in German translation. The manuscript will be edited by experts from Latvia, Germany and Estonia. It will be translated by Rutt Hahn (Göttingen), and published in the series „Schriften des Bundesinstituts für Kultur und Geschichte der Deutschen im östlichen Europa” (BKGE) by DeGruyter Oldenburg.

Direct and indirect target group of the project
The project involves 10 researchers from Estonia, Latvia and Germany. The book will have a print run of 300 copies and is aimed at both academic (it can be used for teaching purposes) and non-academic audiences, as the approach is popular.
