Aims of the project

  • The interdisciplinary workshop Probing the Digital: Cyborgs, Avatars and AI brought together international scholars, professionals, and practitioners in order to discuss recent developments in technology (virtual worlds, prosthetic augmentations, artificial intelligence) as well as its applications and interrelations with the arts, design, and creative practices.
  • It discussed the concepts of transhumanism and post-humanism, engaged into a critical reconsideration of digital-hybrid embodiments, reconfigurations of the senses, and the imaginary dimension of artificial intelligence.
  • A main goal of the project was to combine perceptual, ethical, and aesthetic dimensions with regard to a critical discussion of the interconnections of human subjects, technologies, and digital media.
  • The workshop bridged various different disciplines (philosophy, cultural theory, art, design and architecture) and also looked into more developments of media art, digital art, and technoculture in the Baltic region.

Main activities of the project

  • Exchange of research materials and digital research meetings (online, zoom).
  • Public interdisciplinary Workshop, Art Academy of Latvia, Riga.
  • Podcast-Recording and Postproduction.

Direct and indirect target group of the project

Direct: approx. 20 participants (students and Staff from Art Academy of Latvia)

Indirect: approx. 1000 Listeners expected over the course of the following 2-3 months. On the first day of publishing: 40 digital accesses/clicks via Instagram Link.
