Aims of the project
The aim of this project is to offer sustainable technical solutions for plastic waste management and plastic pollution reduction in the municipalities of the big cities of the Baltic States.
Main activities of the project
Investigations of the structures of municipal waste management systems (Kaunas, Tallinn and Daugavpils municipalities, KTU, Talltech and DU)
Morphological analysis of plastic waste in the main municipal waste streams from collection till recycling and disposal (including separately collected plastic waste, mixed and other municipal waste and waste treatment products), sampling of waste biological treatment products for determination of microplastics abundance (Kaunas, Tallinn and Daugavpils municipalities, KTU, TallTech and DU)
Preparation of review about German experiences in the field of municipal plastic waste management (HAW in Hamburg)
Determination of microplastics amounts in waste treatment products (KTU in Kaunas);
Creation of concepts for effective and sustainable plastic waste management facilities in each target municipality (KTU in Kaunas, TallTech in Tallinn).
LCA assessment for each created concept (KTU in Kaunas, TalTech in Tallinn).
