Countries and institutions involved in the project

Riga Stradiņš University
University of Applied Science Hamburg
Lithuanian University of Health Science

Aim of the project

The topic of the workshops is the possibility of using the “Nudging” method to promote healthier eating habits in society. The methods used so far in Latvia to study and promote healthier eating habits in society are various informative materials, based on scientific research, on healthy eating and lifestyle. For example, a plate of healthy food, indications on product labels about the amount of salt, sugar and fat in them, etc. However, the problem of obesity is still relevant. Thus, the use of new / different methods to put research results into practice and bring them closer to humans is still relevant.

The “Nudging” method has not been used in this field in Latvia so far, therefore its research would be especially valuable to expand the range of tools already used to promote healthier eating habits. Studies carried out by German partners between universities in Hamburg and Italy have shown that the “Nudging” method is working well. At present, German partners have expressed interest in such research in the Baltic States as well. During the workshop, the Latvian partners will get acquainted with previous research on the use of the “Nudging” method and evaluate the possibility of adapting the method to Latvian culture, which will expand the scope of research and develop a joint research on the use of “Nudging” method to promote healthier eating habits in Latvia.
